2:00pm Friday 5/24 Update – Call for volunteers

Updated as of 2:00pm Friday 4/24 — PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY  — Help needed in ongoing search for Chris Dennis

The search for missing Cornell student Chris Dennis is ongoing as of 2:00pm Friday, 4/24. More volunteers for land searches are needed (Esp. At the East Shore location, though help is welcome at either location). Volunteers have conducted land and water searches since 8am this morning.

Chris’s family and friends are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support from our community. We thank the volunteers who canvassed Cayuga Lake’s perimeter and the many who have shown support by supplying us with food, water and shelter.

Searches will continue until nightfall (volunteer coordinator contact info below):

Water Search: Due to weather conditions, we strongly ask that volunteers do not conduct water searches (kayaks, small watercraft, etc.) unless they are experts and have access to wetsuits and appropriate safety equipment.

Ground Search: We need most volunteers for our ground searches. Search parties will leave the Schwartz Center in College Town throughout the day. Searches will stop at nightfall (8:30pm). Please sign up here: https://docs.google.com/a/cornell.edu/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ant6ZNCNsQQ4dFRkVlFaa3g4LTZMZ0FmYkFvRXl4RHc#gid=2

Volunteers will be dispatched from there to the checkpoints on the east side (Milliken Station Rd.http://goo.gl/maps/iK8Jr) and thewest side (Sheldrake Point http://goo.gl/maps/nFQRm) of the lake.

Volunteers: Please expect cold rainy conditions; wear close-toe shoes, warm clothing. We have food, water, reflective vests and ponchos available throughout the day.
